I am just so exciting to get back out on a driving range, let alone an actual golf course.  This snow is such a drag.  The last few days it’s been around 40 degrees and on Tuesday it’s going to be 52 degrees- spring is near!

There’s nothing quite like taking out the clubs for the first time in a new season.  The grips are usually ice cold and the club almost feels like a foreign object in my hands.  And that first swing- ouch!  I can just picture myself going through my usual routine.  Utility wedge first, the pitching wedge, then up the scale through all my irons, onto the hybrid and woods and then the driver.  I can’t wait to put my golf shoes on and to hear the sound of golf balls dropping into a metal basket.  I can’t wait to eyeball everyone else on the range and to watch both the best and the worst try and get better.  It’s funny actually the first time I go out on the range in the spring I typically hit the ball pretty well and then it goes downhill for about a month after that until summer.  I’m so lucky I work at a golf couse and can just hit as many range balls as I can physically stand for free.  I can’t wait for the blisters on my fingers to turn into callouses to show that I’ve been practicing.

After so many years of competitive golf, however, it’s weird to play/practice all summer without having a goal to work towards.  Come August I no longer have to have my game at its peak because I’m not trying to be in the top 5 traveling to tournaments each weekend.  I miss that; that competitive fire is what motivated me to spend 3 hours in the sand bunker trying to get ten shots in a row within 10 feet of the hole.  I know I could probably find a league or something to play in but I really don’t have time for that since I work 45-50 hours a week in the summer.

I’m just excited for spring to get here so I can get back in the swing of things.
